This mosque 'Akmeshet' (white mosque in Kazak) was the birthplace of a remarkable Kazak saint called 'Beket-Ata.' During his lifetime he built four magnificent underground mosques, each of these in a different seasonal pasture. ie summer, winter, spring, and autumn mosques to coincide with the annual migration of the nomad. The mosque was destroyed by the soviets, but has been since reconstructed. We were lucky enough to be invited in by the mullah to stay for a night.
