Magellan Sportrak Pro GPS

Magellan Unlike during my cycling expedition, on this journey I will have the freedom to go cross-country on the horses into remote areas far from roads. Being able to pin-point my location and gauge my progress in a land of few landmarks will be crucial. The Magellan Sportrak Pro GPS is not only waterproof (and buoyant!), but is lightweight and has plenty of storage space for maps. I have had a database downloaded with detailed maps and information about Central Asia. This means that I can accurately plan routes quickly and in advance of having to check coordinates on clumsy maps that stretch across half of the globe. It has many functions that will be useful for me including 3D calculations of altitude, vertical profiling graphs, information about moon and sun rising/setting times, and a speedometer etc etc. It seems very user-friendly at this stage and will enable me to keep track of the adventure in a way that I have never been able to before. Thanks to Magellan for this gem. ON THE ROAD REVIEW This GPS has become one of my most valuable and relied on tools on the steppe. Without it I would not have the freedom to roam into this almost featureless landscape and experience its inherent wild moods. The Magellan Sportrak has been reliable, convenient, and has some very useful funstions for navigating on the move. With good maps I have pin-point accuracy. The only problem I have had with the Magellan is that in -35 the processor froze and I lost all my waypoints and maps. In general definitely recommended.
