Lead and tether ropes are essential equipment needed on a daily basis. They have to be strong, friendly for both rider and horse, and flexible in use.

Nungar knots also provided a hackamore for use on horses without bridle or bit.
So far- brilliant! have travelled 3000km through temperatures ranging from -35 to plus 40. The nungar knot lead ropes in particular are indestructable, easy to grip even with mits on, and dry very quickly. The only problem I have had is with bull snaps wearing out. The 'suit yourself' lead ropes are preferable to the ones with a built in bull-snap. The hackamore has been useful, although in reality you can make your own hackamore system just as easily with a halter, lead rope, and some reins. Having good ropes makes a big difference on this trip, and it is a treat to have these ropes day in day out. They are the envy of all herders and nomads that I meet.
