Video Camera
Since the Yenisey trip I have used my trusty Sony PD100. It is a three chip camera that is strongly built, records on DVCAM format, and has XLR microphone ports. Despite being out of production these days (replaced by the PDX10) it is still a reliable camera with excellent image quality and full manual control. In fact the chip is the exact same one used in the PDX10 anyway. The only advantage of the PDX10 is that it is slightly smaller (only slightly) and records a slightly higher resolution in the 16:9 format. I could not justify the expense of a new camera just for this….especially since Sony makes life very tough with all my accessories being incompatible with the new version!
I also have a Sony tripod with external Lanc port controls, a wide angle lens, and a Sennheiser microphone.
