For safety, communication, and website updating I required a satellite phone.

Not only does Iridium provide a clear phone connection, allowing me to organise logistics and provide interviews from anywhere, it also has data transfer capabilities and is an essential safety tool.
By connecting the phone to my laptop I can log onto the internet via the Iridium gateway, send and receive email, and post live updates on my website. The speed is relatively slow compared to a landline connection at 10kbps but fast and reliable enough for it to work without problems. It is a luxury to be able to dial up and get the work done live from my tent!
