Windstopper jackets have been with me on my journeys as an every-day essential. They breath more easily than gore-tex jackets, and still stop the wind. 80 percent of the time they are all that is needed for outer-shell wear.
On this occasion I looked at the Mountain Designs ‘Eiger’ windstopper jacket as my preferred option. However, since it was out of stock, I opted for the Mountain Designs Windshield Typhoon. It is made of a generic ‘windshield’ material so I am unsure yet whether it will perform as well as gore-windstopper. The principle is the same though and I would not be leaving home without it.
