Having waterproof and breathable gear is essential when you are out in the elements 24/7. On this occasion I decided to opt for a Mountain Designs low cut Gore-tex jacket that is long enough to help keep my saddle dry. It has pit zips, an array of useful pockets (including a map pocket) and easily adjusted hood. From experience, Mountain Designs jackets are the ultimate in keeping yourself dry even in the heaviest rain. On the Yenisey journey my jacket was often eyed enviously by the Canadians who had never seen anything quite like it on their market! My XCR Gore-tex overpants are Mountain Designs ‘Cascade.’ I chose them because of their simplicity, good fit, and because they are remarkably light weight and compact.
