Tim making away across the steppe alone nearby the large town of Ayaguz This is the way that Tim usually travels: essesntial survival tools and camera gear on the lead horse, equipment on the first pack-horse, and 50kg of grain on the last horse

Tim's daily view of the world

Tim's view from the saddle

This what it is like day in, day out, roaming across this open frozen steppe that spreads out like a white ocean Unusual rock formations and little mountains often appear surreal, poking up like islands on the horizon.

A nomad grave out on the steppe These clay-built graves are no older than a couple of hundred years The nomads believed that these graves last as long as is necessary, and it is only natural for these graves to evfentually erode away and return to the steppe.

Making camp

A frosty morning on the steppe, probably down to about -30 degrees Tim encountered temperatures dropping into the minus thirties for an extended period The horses handle the cold well, but it is very tough to pack them and get moving in these conditions.

Village of Kindikti

The village of Kindikti, a remote village out on the steppe Tim took cover here in November during a three-day snow storm.
